10 Ways on How-To-Be-Thrifty (not cheapskate ok!)
1. When you go for your free house party (like the Burleigh House Party I had just now), skip lunch and eat more at dinner. If there are leftovers, pack them back for tomorrow's bfast/lunch.
2. Ask the lecturer if you could have his empty A4 cardboard boxes so that you can use them to contain your lecture notes instead of buying files.
3. Buy a brush/scrub for 49 pence to wash your clothes instead of paying 1.60 pounds everytime you put your clothes in the washing machine.
4. Always cooperate with your friends to buy things in bulk.
5. Take pictures of the textbook that you borrowed from the library and upload them onto your computer to view as an 'e-book' instead of photocopying the pages.
6. Always get the free Manchester Evening News (M.E.N.) papers. Read it and learn more about Manchester, thereafter use the old newspapers as an insulator to put your hot pans/pots of food on.
7. If your hostel doesn't provide toilet rolls, buy in bulk with your friends, then keep the rolls in your room and take a bit out whenever you use the toilet. Leaving it in the cubicle means u're shortening the life of the toilet roll to maximum 1 day.
8. If you plan to go on wkend trips to elsewhere, remember to check out various means of transportation like trains, coaches or flights. Then book at least 2 weeks in advance. Always try to look out for the Free Flights or 1 Pound specials.
9. If you need mayonaise, ketchup, tartar sauce or salad cream, go to a place called Scream Bar and take from the baskets placed on the tables.
10. Do not delete the emails sent by the research groups in school. They can pay you alot just to take part in some easy research experiments like drinking water while watching a short movie clips. Even if you don't fit the bill, just fake it (like how i said i'm a social gambler and constantly suffering from anxiety... hmm not entirely fake though... lol)...
